2010-04-01 Very Helpful Resource (4 of 5)
Having just taken the Microeconomics CLEP test yesterday I can give a review of this book and CD. I bought the book several months ago and found the reading to be difficult. If you don't know a lot about the subject I don't think this book will be enough - at least it wasn't for me. The first test from the CD I took was very difficult and I didn't pass. The best thing I did was get the Economics for Dummies book and read the 150 page section on microeconomics. The material covered everything that the CLEP exam will test you on and the reading, while longer, is easier to understand and assimilate. Another good source of information is a website called Instacert, which charges $20/month and has lots of good info on the subject. After finishing the Dummies book I took the second practice test and got a scaled score of 55 (50 is passing) and decided to give the real test a shot the next day. I managed to pass the CLEP coinicidentally with the same 55 score.

I think that this book is essential to people who have little background in the subject matter like me. What I found more helpful than the text were the two sample tests. The great thing about them is that they give detailed explainations of each question, so if you miss one you get some extra instruction about what you need to know. Just keep in mind that you don't need to ace the test, just score a solid C and collect your credits, so there's no reason to study too hard for this test. All told, I probably spent 15-20 hours reading and taking practice tests.

My best advice is to buy this one and the Dummies book. Good luck!

They key to these Clep tests is read, take notes, read again, take practice test, read again, take next test. Sounds like a lot of work but it isn't that bad - about 6 hours worth. Much better than 40 hours in the classroom and about 15% of the cost.

2008-08-23 good practice (4 of 5)
It provides a good evaluation of your knowledge, helps to determine what you know, as well as where you are drawing some blanks. I'd say that real Microeconomics CLEP is a little easier than the practice tests in this book, which is fine - it's good practice.

2008-06-02 Good value for the price...just don't use it as your only prep resource. (3 of 5)
The good: The book has 2 practice tests, with answers. This let me simulate taking the CLEP tests, the go back and grade myself. By looking at the questions I missed, I was able to identify the specific concepts that needed extra attention.
The bad: The concept reviews are pretty worthless. Don't try to learn the concepts from this book. Use it only to evaluate where you are in your preparation, and whether you're ready for the real test.
