2009-12-22 Something's not right here... (1 of 5)
I teach a Business Law class in high school. I decided to use this REA book this year instead of my normal text and see if my students could pass the CLEP exam. We normally don't cover as much as this REA book includes, but I figured, we might as well try for some college credits if we can get 'em. All of my students outlined the book, created flow charts and mind maps, etc. We looked at all the questions and explanations to figure out why the wrong answers were wrong (not just to see what the correct answer was).

Today one of my students took the CLEP exam. This student is very conscientious and took the two practice exams multiple times. When she first took it, she was scoring in the 80% range. After a while she was so familiar with the questions in the REA book that she was scoring in the 90+% range. After studying the REA book for so long, she took the College Board's 70 practice questions (which she had never seen before) and scored 65%. This was a drop from her REA scores, but still gave her a substantial cushion over the 50% mark needed to "pass" the CLEP. Seeing this, we were confident that she would get at least a 50 on the real exam. She took the CLEP test today and, unfortunately, scored a 46. Talk about heart break. She noted that there were MANY questions that were not covered in the REA book. I honestly don't see how the 5-star ratings accurately reflect the usefulness of this REA study guide. My student essentially experienced a 19% drop between the College Board questions and the actual CLEP exam. She had an even more precipitous drop from the REA to the actual exam. If she knows the REA content so well, but can't pass the actual exam, then something is wrong. From my perspective, it's the book that is lacking -either its coverage is not broad enough, or it's not covering topics in the depth that is required to pass the exam. I don't think I'm gonna use this book any more and I definitely don't recommend it...

2009-01-22 Great B.Law Study Guide (5 of 5)

2008-10-03 Read, Outlined, Studied, Passed (4 of 5)
I purchased this book in early August. I studied for a month by reading it front to back two times (first time contracts didn't make much sense). After getting a general understanding, I outlined the book with main ideas which I didn't fully remember. Finally, I read over my outline several times, did the practice exams, studied those... and passed the exam :)

I definitely recommend this book!

2008-09-04 TAKE THE CLASS! DON'T BOTHER BUYING THIS! (1 of 5)
****** REAL ADVICE FOR REAL PEOPLE IN THE WORKFORCE / BUSY LIFE ****** I bought this book and the Barrons book for the Clep exam. I read the book entirely and took notes for the bold words. The test has 2 exams for preparation. It took me a month to read the whole thing from start to finish. I took the exam using this book and FAILED. I took it again using the Barron's book and PASSED. The legal scenarios I found to be the most helpful portions of the book. Not all the legal terms that I saw on the exam appeared in this book. I have a 3.71 GPA and I study pretty hard for tests so this caught me off guard. The test was so hard that every answer seemed to be worded almost the same so its very tricky. Those other reviews with 5 stars may have been written by individuals who don't work a full-time job or have scholarships and only go attend school all day. If you are a student and only a student then I'd say buy it. Let me warn you that this book alone is not suffice at all. The book is very thin and it doesn't cover enough. It does help you but I would say only 65%. The other 35% was foreign and I would have needed to buy a third book to find these terms. Just take the class its easier and less time-consuming.

2008-08-21 REA does it again (5 of 5)
Once again, REA has produced a study guide that all but insures that you'll pass the exam. This was my second time using their study guides, and once again I have been spared the time and expense of another college class that was not in my field of interst. I purchased the version that comes with the test software CD, which I highly recommend, especially if you haven't taken a CLEP exam before.
