2010-08-09 The only book you need! (5 of 5)
If you going to purchase only one book to study for a CLEP exam, this is the book to have! I received this book on Monday - I reveiw the material in the book Monday night and Tuesday I took the practice tests (wich are included on the CD). I reviewed the answers from the practice test that I got wrong with the explanations in the book. Wednesday morning I took the actual CLEP test and had no problem passing the test. The practice tests on the CD are the key to passing the CLEP test.

2010-03-28 The CD does not work (2 of 5)
I should start with the disclaimer that I have not actually taken the CLEP test yet, however, I am frustrated with this purchase. I read the review in the book and then took Practice Test 1 on the CD. When I reviewed the answers I got correct and incorrect, they were not accurate. I know the score the CD told me (though passing) is not accurate as the answers it says I chose I know are inaccurate. In addition, the CD does not match the book, so it makes it difficult to analyze your answers. In theory this is a great idea, however, the CD does not work correctly. I would not purchase this for the CD. The review was an easy read and probably gave some good information in terms of vocabulary. The written practice test was also helpful, especially with the explainations. But the CD DID NOT work accurately.

2009-12-20 Good book, but it has its downfalls (4 of 5)
I purchased this book about a month before my exam and read it here and there... and then crammed the week before the test. While the material was helpful, the practice exams and the explanations were most helpful.
The problem with the book is that you can't really STUDY how to analyze literatute, but what you can study are literary terms and devices... and most of the terms are not covered in the review, but rather in the answer explanations.
I ended up passing without a problem, but make sure you read your answer explanations because that's where the bulk of the information is. (e.g. homile-- not in the text, but it's a answer choice on one of the practice exams... and the definition is in the explanation, not in the review where it should be.
All in all, buy the book to take the practice exams.

2009-12-05 I didn't just pass--I kicked its behind! (5 of 5)
First disclaimer: I am pretty well read. That said, this book and accompanying CD test software, was all I used to study for the CLEP.
The test questions were very representative of the type of readings and questions on the actual exam. You can mark questions so you can go back and study those more. You can also review your practice tests to see the correct answers with explanations.
The book itself is useful. Lots of explanation on literary terminology, which is very important.
