How to Prepare for CLEP

If you are confused with all the books and CLEP guides in the market, before purchasing anything, talk with a college adviser. They can give you current information on the most useful preparation method, and can tell you about other students who have already taken the test. Always ask around. Use other people's experience and research of how they prepared and what recourses they used.

Besides reading the “knowledge and skills required” section of each CLEP test, check with the college to find out what texts and or topics is being covered in the test.

CLEP test takers can prepare by independent studies, advance high school courses, non-credits adult courses, or take advantage of practice exams offered on the Internet or in preparation books. Also go to the libraries and college bookstores and look for books, software, and video tapes from National Geographic, Nova, and other educational entities.

Once you believe you have studied enough to see whether you are ready to take a CLEP test read the exam description. If the names, topics, symbols, and examples are familiar, you probably just need a review; however, if more than half of the names and topic are unfamiliar, you need to study a lot more. Studying can be fun. Instead of watching a love story, watch a PBS series, a financial program, or watch a historic film or movie.
